If a carpet is fitted in a kitchen, it’s not normally a thick one; most often, carpet tiles are used. You need to use a thinner, hard wearing and dense underlay such as one of the Durafit crumb rubber underlays.
If you do have a thicker carpet then a high density PU foam is recommended - in this case, Contract 9.
If you use vinyl floor tiles then you probably don’t need an inderlay - just make sure the floor is completely smooth and level before you lay them.
For wood or laminate floors, Duratex/Multitex will be fine, unless there is any possibility of damp, in which case you should use Timbermate Excel or Silentfloor Gold.
